Weinberg Foundation highlights recent grantmaking impact

Recently, the Foundation paused to reflect on the impact of its grantmaking within each of its focus areas: Housing, Health, Jobs, Education, and Community Services. From 2018 to 2021, the Foundation provided more than 1,700 grants totaling more than $473 million. Here are some grantmaking highlights within each focus area.

Weinberg-funded effort in Hawai'i joins national network to improve access to employment

The National Fund for Workforce Solutions invited the Hawai'i Workforce Funders Collaborative to join its network, enabling this new effort to further advance its mission of increasing opportunity for Hawai'i’s workforce and strengthening the local economy. Launched by the Weinberg Foundation in partnership with the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, Hawai'i Community Foundation, and Hawai'i Medical Service Association (HMSA), the collaborative aims to ensure all residents have equitable access to living-wage jobs. The Hawai'i collaborative is the only active collaborative of the network’s 34 regional collaboratives to represent an entire state.

Grantee NTEN opens applications to help Jewish nonprofits across the United States improve IT systems

Since the beginning of the year, NTEN (Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network) has served more than 40 Jewish nonprofits through its Nonprofit Tech Readiness cohorts, which are working to strengthen nonprofits’ knowledge of best practices in the areas of technology planning, budgeting, and decision making, while also supporting each participant in advancing a technology project specific to their organization.

Grantee National Council on Aging increases benefits screenings for older adults

Thanks to newly upgraded digital infrastructure, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) has helped connect more older adults with benefits programs that assist them with covering basic needs such as health care, food, housing, and utilities. The organization’s newly improved online tools, BenefitsCheckUp and the Age Well Planner, now work more effectively and efficiently to assign case managers and provide step-by-step guidance on how older adults can access critical programs and financial services, including Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and more.

Grantee Aspire of Illinois expands disability employment services in Chicago

With the help of a $500,000 grant from the Weinberg Foundation, Aspire of Illinois will expand its Creating Equity Through Employment program into the south and west sides of Chicago. The program provides job-readiness training, job placements, and on-the-job support for people with disabilities. This expansion is one of the city’s most significant expansions of disability employment services to date.

New faces at the Weinberg Foundation

The Weinberg Foundation is continuing to grow! Last month, the Foundation expanded its real estate team. Boris Sztorch joined the Hawaiʿi office as a part-time analyst. Also in the Hawaiʿi office, Kevin Nishida joined the IT team as senior information technology specialist.

 

This month, in Baltimore, Arin Gencer began her role as senior communications director. As previously announced, she will succeed Chief Communications Officer Craig Demchak who will retire on October 31.

More than $13 million in recent grants announced

The Weinberg Foundation recently approved more than $13 million in grants that span its five focus areas, including support for housing for older adults and people experiencing homelessness; health services; job training; professional development for educators; and nonprofits that serve the Jewish community.
